Toronto Argonauts sign three players including WR J.J. Arcega-Whiteside

The Toronto Argonauts signed wide receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, and defensive backs Marquis Waters and Latavious Brini on Monday.

J.J. Arcega-Whiteside is six foot two and weighs 237 pounds. The 27-year-old from Inman, South Carolina, made six catches for 86 yards in three preseason games for the Atlanta Falcons in 2023. The Falcons signed Whiteside as a free agent on May 22, 2023.

Before Atlanta, the Philadelphia Eagles drafted Whiteside in the second round (57th pick) of the 2019 NFL Draft. Whiteside played three seasons in Philadelphia with 16 catches for 290 yards and one touchdown in 40 games with the Eagles. In 2022, the Eagles traded Whiteside to the Seattle Seahawks.

Collegiately, Whiteside played three seasons at Stanford (2016-18) with 135 catches for 2,219 yards and 28 touchdowns in 36 games for the Cardinal. He was named Second Team All-Pac-12 in 2018.

Marquis Waters is six foot one and weighs 215 pounds. The 24-year-old from Delray Beach, Florida, made ten tackles (6 solo, 4 assists) in four preseason games for the New York Jets in 2023. The Jets signed Waters as an undrafted free agent in 2023.

Collegiately, Waters played four seasons at Duke (2017-20) with 234 tackles (148 solo, 86 assists), 13 tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions for 27 yards, 21 pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and one blocked punt in 49 games for the Blue Devils. He was a two-time Academic All-ACC selection.

Then, Waters transferred to Texas Tech (2021-22) with 69 tackles (46 solo, 23 assists), 14 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions for 83 yards, one touchdown, and three pass breakups in 17 games for the Red Raiders.

Latavious Brini is six foot two and weighs 215 pounds. The 25-year-old from Miami Gardens, Florida, made four tackles (3 solo, 1 assist) in three preseason games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023. The Jaguars signed Brini as an undrafted free agent in 2023.

Collegiately, Brini played four seasons at Georgia (2018-21) with 50 tackles (33 solo, 17 assists), six tackles for loss, one interception, and ten pass breakups in 30 games for the Bulldogs. He helped the Bulldogs win the Peach Bowl in 2020.

Then, Brini transferred to Arkansas in 2022 with 55 tackles (32 solo, 23 assists), four tackles for loss, one forced fumble, two pass breakups, and one interception in 13 games for the Razorbacks.
