The Toronto Argonauts restructured defensive back Royce Metchie’s contract on Thursday according to 3DownNation’s John Hodge.
Metchie was scheduled to earn a $30,000 off-season roster bonus on January 15, 2024, as part of a contract worth $160,000 for the upcoming season. The new contract will now pay him $140,000 in 2024.
Royce Metchie is five foot eleven and weighs 197 pounds. The 27-year-old from Lagos, Nigeria, made 72 tackles, one interception, one touchdown, and two forced fumbles in 18 games for the Argonauts in 2023. In two seasons in Toronto, Metchie has made 144 tackles, one tackle on special teams, three interceptions, one touchdown, and two forced fumbles in 35 games.
Toronto acquired Metchie on February 4, 2022, from the Calgary Stampeders for linebacker Cameron Judge. Metchie played three seasons in Calgary with 79 tackles, 12 tackles on special teams, four interceptions, and one forced fumble in 31 games.
Collegiately, Metchie four seasons at the University of Guelph (2014-17) with 108 tackles (82 solo, 52 assists), six tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, two interceptions, and nine pass breakups in 28 games for the Gryphons.
