The San Antonio Brahmas signed running back John Lovett, defensive tackle Caeveon Patton, and defensive back Vernon Scott for the 2024 season on Friday.
John Lovett is five foot eleven and weighs 215 pounds. The 24-year-old from Burlington City, New Jersey, had 59 carries for 227 yards, three touchdowns, 14 catches for 269 yards, and two touchdowns in ten games for the Vegas Vipers (XFL) in 2023. After the season, he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers but did not play in the preseason.
The Vipers drafted Lovett in the second round (12th pick) of the 2022 XFL Draft. Before Vegas, Lovett signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and spent most of the season on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Lovett played four seasons at Baylor (2017-20) with 355 carries for 1,803 yards, 17 touchdowns, 29 catches for 183 yards, one touchdown, 15 kick returns for 283 yards, and four tackles (3 solo, 1 assist) in 42 games for the Bears.
Then, Lovett transferred to Penn State in 2021 with 52 carries for 177 yards, nine catches for 36 yards, and four kick returns for 63 yards in nine games for the Nittany Lions.
Caeveon Patton is six foot one and weighs 291 pounds. The 24-year-old from Cuero, Texas, made 40 tackles (12 solo, 28 assists), and five tackles for loss in ten games for the Orlando Guardians (XFL) in 2023. He earned All-XFL Honors after the season. Then, Patton signed with the Atlanta Falcons playing three preseason games making two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist).
The Guardians drafted Patton in the eighth round (57th pick) of the 2022 XFL Draft. Before Orlando, Patton signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2022.
Collegiately, Patton played five seasons at Texas State (2017-21) with 179 tackles (70 solo, 109 assists), 11.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, six pass breakups, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries in 44 games for the Bobcats. He was an All-Sun Belt Conference Honorable Mention in 2019.
Vernon Scott is six foot two and weighs 202 pounds. The 26-year-old from Dallas, Texas, attended training camp for the Carolina Panthers in 2023 but did not play any preseason games.
Before Carolina, the Green Bay Packers drafted Scott in the seventh round (236th pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft. He played three seasons in Green Bay with 14 tackles (12 solo, 2 assists), two tackles for loss, one quarterback hit, and one sack in 18 games.
Collegiately, Scott played four seasons at TCU (2016-19) with 88 tackles (58 solo, 30 assists), two tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions for 98 yards, one touchdown, 12 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 45 games for the Horned Frogs.
