Reading Royals conclude road trip with a loss in Maine

The Reading Royals (16-17-2-1) concluded their three-game series on Sunday afternoon against the Maine Mariners (15-16-5) from the Cross Insurance Arena. The Royals won the first two games but were unable to complete the weekend sweep.

Two minutes and thirty-one seconds into the first period, Reading’s Tyson Fawcett put the Royals up 1-0 with an assist by Matt Brown. At 19:35, Maine’s Tyler Drevitch tied the game 1-1 with an assist by William Provost. The Royals had eight shots on goal but the game remained tied 1-1 after one period.

Six minutes and thirty-eight seconds into the second period, Reading’s Adam Brubacher put the Royals back up 2-1 with assists by Devon Paliani and Kenny Johnson. The Royals had 14 shots on goal and led 2-1 after two periods of play.

At 3:52 of the third period, Maine’s Adam Mechura tied the game 2-2 with assists by Chase Zieky and Ethan Ritchie. Then at 5:01, Maine’s Ryan Mast put the Mariners ahead 3-2 with assists by Curtis Hall and Adam Mechura.

At 12:55, Reading’s Joseph Nardi tied the game 3-3 with assists by Ryan Chyzowski and Adam Brubacher. The Royals had 11 shots on goal but the game remained tied 3-3 heading into overtime.

Three minutes and twenty-eight seconds into overtime, Maine’s Adam Mechura scored the game-winning goal with an assist by Gabriel Chicoine, and the Royals lost to the Mariners by the final score of 4-3. The Royals take two of three games from the Mariners.

The Royals had 33 shots on goal, committed three penalties for six minutes, went 1 for 3 on the power play, and Nolan Maier made 26 saves off 30 shots.
