The Toronto Argonauts named Demetrious Maxie defensive line coach and Dominic Picard running backs coach on Monday.
Demetrious Maxie was a defensive line coach and linebacker coach for five seasons with the Edmonton Elks. As a player, Maxie played 14 seasons in the CFL with the Baltimore Stallions, Toronto Argonauts, Montreal Alouettes, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Calgary Stampeders with 263 tackles, 70 sacks, one interception, and five fumble recoveries in 167 games.
In 1995, he helped the Baltimore Stallions win the Grey Cup, the first and only American team to win the Grey Cup in CFL history. He was a two-time CFL All-Star, a CFL East All-Star, and a CFL West All-Star. In addition to the CFL, Maxie played for the Indiana Firebirds (AFL).
Dominic Picard will make his CFL coaching debut after spending a season as an offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the Sherbrooke Vert & Or. He also held coaching positions for the Séminaire St-François Blizzard, St-Jean Géants, and Garneau Élans.
As a player, Picard played ten seasons in the CFL for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Toronto Argonauts, and Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was drafted by the Blue Bombers in the third round (23rd pick) of the 2006 CFL Draft. During his playing career, Picard won the Grey Cup in 2013, was a CFL East All-Star in 2011, and was named his team’s top offensive lineman three times over his career in 151 games.
