The D.C. Defenders (UFL) signed defensive back Deandre Baker on Thursday.
Deandre Baker is five foot eleven and weighs 186 pounds. The 26-year-old from Miami, Florida, last played in 2021 with the Kansas City Chiefs making 16 tackles (13 solo, 3 assists) and one pass breakup in eight games, of which one was a start.
Before Kansas City, Baker was drafted by the New York Giants in the first round (30th pick) of the 2019 NFL Draft. In 2019, Baker made 61 tackles (48 solo, 13 assists), two tackles for loss, and eight pass breakups in 15 starts for the Giants. He was abruptly released by the Giants in 2020 following an arrest of robbery with a firearm which those charges were later dropped.
After New York, Baker signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. He played two seasons making 21 tackles (17 solo, 4 assists), one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, and two pass breakups in ten games, of which two were starts. The Chiefs released him on August 7, 2022.
Collegiately, Baker played four seasons at Georgia (2015-18) with 116 tackles (83 solo, 33 assists), four tackles for loss, one sack, seven interceptions for 146 yards, 31 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 51 games for the Bulldogs.
Baker was named First Team All-SEC by the Associated Press & Coaches in 2018, First Team All-American by the Associated Press in 2018, and the winner of the Jim Thorpe Award in 2018.
