Toronto Argonauts and LB Wynton McManis agree to a contract extension

The Toronto Argonauts re-signed linebacker Wynton McManis is a one-year contract extension worth $205,000 through the 2024 season on Friday. The new contract will make him one of the CFL’s highest-paid linebackers.

Wynton McManis is six foot one and weighs 225 pounds. The 29-year-old from Memphis, Tennessee, made 79 tackles, one tackle on special teams, four sacks, four interceptions, and two touchdowns in 16 games for the Argonauts in 2023 on his way to being named a CFL East All-Star and CFL All-Star.

In 2022, McManis helped the Argo’s win the Grey Cup with 95 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions, one touchdown, and one forced fumble in 14 games in 2022. He was named a CFL All-Star in 2022.  The Argonauts signed McManis as a free agent on February 8, 2022.

Before joining Toronto, McManis signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He played two games for the 49ers. Next, he signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2021 and played one game. spent three seasons with the Calgary Stampeders (2017-19) with 145 tackles, four sacks, and two forced fumbles in 43 games.

Collegiately, McManis played four seasons at the University of Memphis (2012-15) with 110 tackles (75 solo, 35 assists), nine tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception for four yards, one touchdown, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, one punt return for 16 yards, and one blocked punt in 47 games for the Tigers.
