The Memphis Showboats released quarterback Ryan Willis on Friday.
Ryan Willis is six foot four and weighs 211 pounds. The 27-year-old from Overland Park, Kansas, completed 1 of 4 passes (25%) for -2 yards in one game against the Birmingham Stallions in 2023. The Showboats signed Willis as a free agent on February 8, 2023.
Before Memphis, Willis signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2021. He would later play for the Linemen (TSL) in 2021 completing 165 of 256 passes (64.5%) for 1,680 yards, 13 touchdowns, 5 interceptions, and ten carries for six yards in six games leading them to win the Mega Bowl over the Jousters 26-23, and was named the Mega Bowl MVP.
After the Linemen, Willis returned to the Chicago Bears on the practice squad and later signed with the St. Louis Battlehawks in 2022.
Collegiately, Willis played two seasons at Kansas (2015-16) completing 236 of 432 passes (54.6%) for 2,530 yards, 11 touchdowns, 17 interceptions, 96 carries for -90 yards, and one touchdown in 16 games for the Jayhawks.
Then, he transferred to Virginia Tech (2018-19) completing 285 of 481 passes (59.3%) for 3,266 yards, 33 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, 152 carries for 388 yards, and five touchdowns in 17 games for the Hokies.
