Reading gets blown out by Wheeling

The Royals were blown out by the Wheeling Nailers on Friday night.

The Reading Royals (16-18-3-1) continued their three-game homestand at the Santander Arena on Friday night against the Wheeling Nailers (20-16-1-1).

A minute and fifty-one seconds into the first period, Wheeling’s Jordan Martel put the Nailers up 1-0. The Royals had six shots on goal but trailed 1-0 after one period of play.

In the second period, Wheeling dominated scoring three goals by Tanner Laderoute, Jordan Martel, and David Jankowski which made it 4-0 Nailers. The Royals had four shots on goal but trailed 4-0 after two periods of play.

In the first three minutes of the third period, Reading scored a couple of goals by Yvan Mongo with assists by Matt Brown and Adam Brubacher, and Ryan Chyzowski with assists by Jake Bricknell and Tag Bertuzzi to cut Wheeling’s lead down to 4-2.

Later, Wheeling got the two goals back both by Isaac Belliveau which made it 6-2. At 15:01, Reading’s Devon Paliani scored to make it 6-3 with assists by Matt Brown and Jake Bricknell. Late in the third period, Wheeling added two more goals by Sebastian Dirven and Jordan Martel completed the hat trick to make it 8-3.

The Royals had 14 shots on goal but lost to the Wheeling Nailers by the final score of 8-3. Reading had 24 shots on goal, committed four penalties, went 2 for 5 on the power play, and Nolan Maier made 42 saves off 50 shots.
