Arlington Renegades sign four players including RB Leddie Brown

The Arlington Renegades signed running back Leddie Brown, offensive lineman Chris Owens, defensive back Jamal Carter, and placekicker Taylor Russolino on Friday.

Leddie Brown is six foot and weighs 212 pounds. The 24-year-old from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, had 50 carries for 179 yards, 12 catches for 104 yards, and six kick returns for 111 yards in five games for the Arlington Renegades in 2023 helping them win the XFL Championship over the D.C. Defenders. The Renegades signed Brown as a free agent on March 17, 2023.

Before Arlington, Brown signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2022. Then, he was drafted by the St. Louis Battlehawks in the fifth round (38th pick) in Phase 6 of the 2023 XFL Draft.

Collegiately, Brown played four seasons at West Virginia (2018-21) with 620 carries for 2,888 yards, 27 touchdowns, 86 catches for 604 yards, five touchdowns, and three tackles (3 solo) in 44 games for the Mountaineers. He was named First Team All-Big 12 by the Coaches, AP, Phil Steele, and Heartland in 2020.

Chris Owens is six foot three and weighs 305 pounds. The 26-year-old from Arlington, Texas, played started ten games for the Seattle Sea Dragons (XFL) in 2023. Seattle’s offense helped quarterback Ben DiNucci lead the league in passing yards (2,671), and wide receiver Jahcour Pearson led the league in receiving yards (670). Seattle finished second in the XFL North Division standings and lost the North Divisional playoff game against the D.C. Defenders.

The Sea Dragons drafted Owens in the first round (3rd pick) in Phase 4 of the 2023 XFL Draft. Before Seattle, Owens signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He also had a brief stint with the New York Giants.

Collegiately, Owens played six seasons at Alabama (2016-21) playing 51 games, of which 19 were starts for the Crimson Tide. In 2021, Alabama’s offensive line helped open holes and provided time for the No. 6 scoring offense (39.9 ppg), No. 7 passing offense (338.2 ypg), and pass efficiency offense (166.5), the No. 3 unit in third-down conversion percentage (52.0) and the No. 5 red zone offense (.926).

Jamal Carter is six foot one and weighs 215 pounds. The 29-year-old from Naranja, Florida, made 17 tackles (9 solo, 8 assists) in three games for the Arlington Renegades in 2023 helping them win the XFL Championship over the D.C. Defenders. Arlington drafted Carter in the second round (14th pick) of the 2023 XFL Supplemental Draft.

Before Arlington, Carter signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He played one season in Denver with 11 tackles (9 solo, 2 assists), and one pass breakup in 16 games. Next, he signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 2019 with 15 tackles (9 solo, 6 assists), and one pass breakup in 12 games.

Then, he signed with the Arizona Cardinals before heading to the Tennessee Titans. He played one regular season game for the Titans recording no stats.

Collegiately, Carter played four seasons at Miami (FL) (2013-16) making 164 tackles (95 solo, 69 assists), 2.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions for 48 yards, 10 pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and four kick returns for 60 yards in 43 games for the Hurricanes.

Taylor Russolino is six foot and weighs 170 pounds. The 34-year-old from Metairie, Louisiana, converted 16 of 19 field goals (84.2%) with a long of 56 yards in ten games for the Renegades helping them with the XFL Championship over the D.C. Defenders. The Renegades drafted Russolino in the first round (1st pick) in Phase 5 of the 2023 XFL Draft.

Before Arlington, Russolino played three seasons in indoor football for the Marion Blue Racers (CIFL), New Orleans Voodoo (AFL), Spokane Shock (IFL), and the Shanghai Skywalkers (CAFL). In 2017, Russolino signed with the Montreal Alouettes converting two of three field goals (66.7%) with a long of 19 yards, attempted one extra point, and 19 punts for 666 yards with a long of 53 yards in two games.

In 2020, Russolino played for the St. Louis Battlehawks (XFL) converting 9 of 10 field goals (90%) with a long of 58 yards in five games for the XFL ceased operations due to COVID-19. After St. Louis, Russolino played one game for the Denver Broncos in 2020 attempting one field goal and made 1 of 3 extra points.

Collegiately, Russolino played four seasons at Millsaps College (2007-10) for the Majors. He was named First Team All-SCAC in 2008 and a two-time Second Team All-SCAC (2009-10).
