The Saskatchewan Roughriders re-signed defensive lineman Anthony Lanier II and defensive back Nelson Lokombo to one-year contract extensions along with signing defensive back C.J. Coldon on Monday. The Canadian Press’s Dan Ralph reported Lanier’s extension.

Anthony Lanier II is six foot six and weighs 285 pounds. The 30-year-old from Savannah, Georgia, made 19 tackles and five sacks in 14 games for the Roughriders in 2023. In 2022, Lanier made 19 tackles, eight sacks, and two forced fumbles in 11 games for the Roughriders in 2022.

The Roughriders signed Lanier as a free agent on March 2, 2021. In three seasons in Saskatchewan, Lanier has 51 tackles, 14 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 35 games.

Before joining Saskatchewan, Lanier played four seasons in the NFL with the Washington Redskins and Los Angeles Chargers. The Redskins signed Lanier as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He played four games with one fumble recovery.

He went on to play 15 games in Washington with 15.5 tackles, five sacks, six pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries. In addition, Lanier spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints.

Collegiately, Lanier played three seasons at Alabama A&M (2013-15) with 144 tackles (72 solo, 72 assists) and 9.5 tackles for loss, in 35 games for the Bulldogs.

Nelson Lokombo is five foot eleven and weighs 190 pounds. The 24-year-old Abbotsford, British Columbia, made five tackles and four tackles on special teams in 11 games for the Roughriders in 2023. The Roughriders drafted Lokombo in the first round (2nd pick) of the 2021 CFL Draft. In 2022, Lokombo made 13 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one forced fumble in 12 games.

Collegiately, Lokombo played three seasons at the University of Saskatchewan (2017-19) with 101 tackles (89 solo, 26 assists), six tackles for loss, three sacks, ten interceptions for 260 yards, two touchdowns, 25 pass breakups, and three forced fumbles in 30 games for the Huskies. He was named First Team All-Canadian and won the Presidents’ Trophy in 2019.

C.J. Coldon is five foot ten and weighs 186 pounds. The 25-year-old from Belleville, Illinois, made two tackles (2 solo) and one pass breakup for the Minnesota Vikings against the Arizona Cardinals in a preseason game in 2023. The Vikings signed Coldon as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and was placed on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Coldon played four seasons at Wyoming (2018-21) with 112 tackles (78 solo, 34 assists), 6.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, 17 pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in 24 games for the Cowboys.

Then, he transferred to Oklahoma in 2022 with 43 tackles (25 solo, 18 assists), two tackles for loss, four interceptions for 32 yards, and ten pass breakups in 12 games for the Sooners. He was named an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention after the season.
