Edmonton Elks sign three players including RB Sewo Olonilua

The Edmonton Elks signed running back Sewo Olonilua, defensive lineman Joseph Jackson, and defensive back Malik Jones on Monday.

Sewo Olonilua is six foot three and 240 pounds. The 26-year-old from Kingwood, Texas, was with the Houston Roughnecks (XFL) in 2023 and signed with the Orlando Guardians (XFL) on June 26, 2023, but the Guardians were not included in the XFL and USFL merger that formed the United Football League (UFL). Before Houston, Olonilua signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and appeared in two regular-season games.

Collegiately, Olonilua played four seasons at TCU (2016-19) with 343 carries for 1,566 yards, 18 touchdowns, 56 catches for 352 yards, one touchdown, nine kick returns for 177 yards, and 11 tackles (7 solo, 4 assists) in 51 games for the Horned Frogs.

Joseph Jackson is six foot four and weighs 278 pounds. The 27-year-old from Homestead, Florida, made three tackles (3 solo), one tackle for loss, one sack, and one forced fumble against the New Jersey Generals in 2023 playing for the Birmingham Stallions. The Stallions signed Jackson as a free agent in 2023. Before Birmingham, Jackson was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round (165th pick) of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Jackson also spent time with the Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, and Kansas City Chiefs playing 20 games for the Browns (15 games) and Cowboys (5 games) making 25 tackles (13 solo, 12 assists), three tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, 1.5 sacks, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery.

Collegiately, Jackson played three seasons at Miami (FL) (2016-18) with 129 tackles (65 solo, 64 assists), 35.5 tackles for loss, 22.5 sacks, one interception for 42 yards, one touchdown, five pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, five forced fumbles, and one touchdown in 35 games for the Hurricanes.

Malik Jones is six foot one and weighs 185 pounds. The 23-year-old from Crystal Springs, Mississippi, played one season at Northwest Mississippi Community College in 2019 with six tackles (4 solo, 2 assists) in eight games for the Rangers.

Next, he transferred to Copiah-Lincoln Community College (2020-21) with 39 tackles (28 solo, 11 assists), three tackles for loss, half a sack, one fumble recovery, two interceptions, two pass breakups, and five kick returns for 120 yards in 12 games for the Wolves.

Then, he transferred to Delta State (2022-23) with 81 tackles (59 solo, 22 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions for 161 yards, one touchdown, 20 pass breakups, and one blocked punt in 23 games for the Statesmen.
