The Calgary Stampeders signed defensive back Carlins Platel on Thursday.
Carlins Platel is six foot one and weighs 194 pounds. The 24-year-old from Everett, Massachusetts, was with the Philadelphia Stars (USFL) in 2023 but did not play a game.
Before Philadelphia, Platel signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2023 with five tackles (4 solo, 1 assist) in three preseason games.
Collegiately, Platel played three seasons at Assumption University (2017-19) with 96 tackles (69 solo, 27 assists), two tackles for loss, one sack, seven interceptions for 77 yards, one touchdown, 37 pass breakups, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and three punt returns for 14 yards in 33 games for the Greyhounds.
He was named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team in 2017 after making 41 tackles (28 solo, 13 assists), one tackle for loss, three interceptions for 72 yards, one touchdown, 11 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 13 games.
Then, he was named First Team All-NE10 in 2019 after making 29 tackles (21 solo, 8 assists), one tackle for loss, one sack, two interceptions, 18 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and three punt returns for 14 yards.
Then, he transferred to South Carolina in 2022 with 21 tackles (15 solo, 6 assists), 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 12 games.
At Everett High School, Platel played football and track. He played in the MIAA Division 1 Championship against Xaverian, was named First Team All-State in 2016, and led the team with six interceptions.
