The Edmonton Elks signed wide receiver Malik Flowers and defensive lineman Aaron Adeoye on Thursday. In addition, the Elks released running back Shannon Brooks.
Malik Flowers is six foot two and weighs 202 pounds. The 24-year-old from Fontana, California, was on Edmonton’s practice squad in 2023. After he was released by the Elks on October 10, 2023, Flowers signed with the Las Vegas Raiders and spent the season on the practice squad. Before Edmonton, Flowers had brief stints with the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks in 2023.
Collegiately, Flowers played five seasons at the University of Montana (2018-22) with 51 catches for 716 yards, four touchdowns, 16 carries for 251 yards, one touchdown, 92 kick returns for 2,659 yards, seven touchdowns, and one punt return for 11 yards in 52 games for the Grizzlies. He was named First Team All-Big Sky in the 2020-21 as a kick returner.
Aaron Adeoye is six foot six and weighs 273 pounds. The 30-year-old from Marion, Illinois, made seven tackles (5 solo, 2 assists) and 1.5 sacks in two games for the Arlington Renegades (XFL) in 2023 winning the XFL Championship over the D.C. Defenders.
Before Arlington, Adeoye played for the Salina Liberty (CIFL) in 2017, The Spring League in 2018, and played for the Birmingham Iron (AAF) in 2019. In 2019, Adeoye made 20 tackles (14 solo, 6 assists) and half a sack in eight games before the AAF folded.
Next, Adeoye spent time with the Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, and the Green Bay Packers before he was drafted by the Birmingham Stallions (USFL) in the second round (11th pick) of the 2022 USFL Draft. In 2022, Adeoye made 12 tackles (5 solo, 7 assists) in four games for the Stallions winning the USFL Championship over the Philadelphia Stars.
Collegiately, Adeoye played basketball at Ball State, John A. Logan College, Western Kentucky, and Southeast Missouri State. In 2015, Adeoye switched to football making two tackles (2 assists) in five games for the Redhawks.
Shannon Brooks is five foot eleven and weighs 200 pounds. The 27-year-old from Austell, Georgia, had 36 carries for 175 yards (4.9 AVG), 12 catches for 95 yards (13.6 AVG), and two kick returns for 21 yards (10.5 AVG) in 18 games for the Edmonton Elks in 2023. The Elks signed Brooks as a free agent on November 25, 2022.
Before Edmonton, Brooks played for the Arizona Rattlers (IFL) in the 2022 season with 89 carries for 396 yards, 18 touchdowns, 29 catches for 354 yards, and nine touchdowns in 14 games. Before the Rattlers, he was with the Massachusetts Pirates in 2021 but did not see action.
Collegiately, Brooks played five seasons at the University of Minnesota (2015-19) with 431 carries for 2,290 yards, 20 touchdowns, completed one pass for 42 yards, one touchdown, 32 catches for 313 yards, two touchdowns, 27 kick returns for 503 yards, and three tackles (2 solo, 1 assist) in 38 games for the Golden Gophers.
