Ottawa Redblacks sign three players including WR Joe Walker

The Ottawa Redblacks signed wide receiver Joe Walker, offensive lineman Samuel Jackson, and defensive lineman Jamare Edwards on Thursday.

Joe Walker is six foot three and weighs 197 pounds. The 28-year-old from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, made 40 catches for 509 yards, three touchdowns, and seven kick returns for 155 yards in ten games for the Michigan Panthers in 2023.

Walker signed with the New Jersey Generals on October 3, 2023, but the Generals were not included in the USFL and XFL merger that formed the United Football League (UFL).

The Panthers signed Walker as a free agent on April 22, 2022. In 2022, Walker made 26 catches for 318 yards, three touchdowns, and eight punt returns for 55 yards in nine games for the Panthers in 2022.

Before Michigan, Walker signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He would later have stints with the D.C. Defenders (XFL) and Ottawa Redblacks (CFL).

Collegiately, Walker played four seasons at Delaware (2015-18) with 41 catches for 837 yards, four touchdowns, 314 carries for 1,207 yards, six touchdowns, completed 200 of 412 passes (49%) for 2,256 yards, 8 touchdowns, 16 interceptions, and four kick returns for 84 yards in 44 games for the Blue Hens.

Samuel Jackson is six foot five and weighs 330 pounds. The 25-year-old from Bradenton, Florida, played three preseason games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023. The Jaguars signed Jackson as an undrafted free agent in 2023.

Collegiately, Jackson played six seasons at the University of Central Florida (2017-22) playing 63 games for the Knights. In 2022, the Knights’ offense had 6,331 total yards, 3,364 yards in passing, 2,967 yards in rushing, and 53 touchdowns. Jackson was named First Team All-AAC by Pro Football Focus and Second Team All-AAC by a vote of league coaches in 2022.

Jamare Edwards is six foot three and weighs 281 pounds. The 25-year-old from Miami, Florida, was drafted by the Vegas Vipers (XFL) in the 2023 XFL Rookie Draft. However, the Vipers were not included in the XFL and USFL merger that formed the United Football League (UFL).

Collegiately, Edwards played five seasons at Marshall University (2017-2021) with 80 tackles (17 solo, 63 assists), 12 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 33 games for the Thundering Herd.

Then, Edwards transferred to James Madison University in 2022 with 44 tackles (23 solo, 21 assists), 12.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 11 games for the Dukes. He was named Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference in 2022.
