The B.C. Lions and offensive lineman David Knevel agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2024 season on Saturday. Knevel was scheduled to be a free agent on February 13, 2024.
David Knevel is six foot eight and weighs 325 pounds. The 29-year-old from Brantford, Ontario, played 18 games last season including starting the last six games playing left guard in 2023.
In 2023, the Lions’ offense finished third in average offense points (26.1), touchdowns (45), average net offense (371.2), first in average passing yards (315.1), ninth in average rushing yards (77.3), and sixth in sacks allowed (53). In 2022, Knevel missed the season due to having labrum repair surgery on his shoulder.
The Lions drafted Knevel in the third round (21st pick) in the 2018 CFL Draft. In four seasons in British Columbia, Knevel has played 68 games at both guard and tackle.
Collegiately, Knevel played four seasons at Nebraska (2014-17) playing 31 games at right tackle for the Cornhuskers. In 2016, the Cornhuskers’ offense had 550 yards of total offense against both Wyoming and Northwestern, while senior quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. became Nebraska’s all-time leader in total offense and passing yardage.
Knevel was named Academic All-Big Ten in 2016, four-time Brook Berringer Citizenship Team (2014-17), and four-time Tom Osborne Citizenship Team (2014-17).
