Calgary Stampeders set to sign QB Matthew Shiltz, re-signs DB Kobe Williams

The Calgary Stampeders are set to sign quarterback Matthew Shiltz to a one-year contract according to The Canadian Press’s Dan Ralph on Wednesday. In addition, the Stampeders re-signed defensive back Kobe Williams to a one-year contract extension through the 2024 season.

Matthew Shiltz is six foot two and weighs 205 pounds. The 31-year-old from St. Charles, Illinois, completed 108 of 161 passes for (67.1%) for 1,556 yards, seven touchdowns, five interceptions, 23 carries for 160 yards, and one touchdown in 11 games for the Ticats in 2023.

In 2022, he completed 85 of 119 passes (71.4%) for 935 yards, four touchdowns, two interceptions, 28 carries for 152 yards, and one touchdown in 17 games for the Ticats.

The Ticats signed Shiltz as a free agent on February 6, 2022, after spending four seasons with the Montreal Alouettes. Shiltz completed 145 of 237 passes (61.2%) for 1,866 yards, eight touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 50 carries for 313 yards, and two touchdowns in 50 games for the Alouettes.

Collegiately, Shiltz played four seasons at Butler University (2012-15) with 324-552 completions for 4,042 yards, 29 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, 175 carries for 862 yards, two touchdowns, and caught four passes for 32 yards in 29 games for the Bulldogs.

In 2015, Shiltz was named 2015 First Team Academic All-PFL, 2015 PFL Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year, and 2015 All-PFL Second Team. He completed 218 of 381 passes (57.2%) for 2,713 yards, 19 touchdowns, nine interceptions, 126 carries for 639 yards, ten touchdowns, three catches for 36 yards, and two touchdowns in 11 games in his final season.

Kobe Williams is five foot ten and weighs 180 pounds. The 25-year-old from Long Beach, California, made 45 tackles, four tackles on special teams, one sack, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles in 18 games for the Stampeders in 2023.

The Stampeders signed Williams as a free agent on June 11, 2021. In three seasons, Williams has made 76 tackles, four tackles on special teams, one sack, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles in 30 games. Before Calgary, Williams signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2020.

Collegiately, Williams played one season at Long Beach Community College in 2016 with 21 tackles (18 solo, 3 assists), two tackles for loss, one interception, and five pass breakups in 11 games for the Vikings. Then, he transferred to Arizona State (2017-19) with 143 tackles (115 solo, 28 assists), 6.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions for 49 yards, one touchdown, 25 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 38 games for the Sun Devils.
