The Birmingham Stallions signed defensive lineman Caleb Sampson and released offensive lineman Tre’Vour Wallace-Simms on Thursday.
Caleb Sampson is six foot three and weighs 306 pounds. The 25-year-old from St. Rose, Louisiana, made one tackle (1 assist) in three preseason games for the Indianapolis Colts in 2023. The Colts signed Sampson as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and spent part of the season on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Sampson started as a redshirt freshman at Missouri in 2017. Next, he transferred to Coahoma Community College in 2018 with 28 tackles (14 solo, 14 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery in eight games for the Tigers.
Then, he transferred to Kansas (2019-22) with 77 tackles (49 solo, 28 assists), 11.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, and six pass breakups in 46 games for the Jayhawks.
Tre’Vour Wallace-Simms is six foot five and weighs 330 pounds. The 26-year-old from East St. Louis, Illinois, played four games for the Stallions, of which two were starts.
In 2023, the Stallions ranked second in passing yards (2,170), second in passing yards per game (217), first in completion percentage (67.4), first in passing touchdowns (21), third in rushing yards (1,156), third in rushing yards per game (115.6), and tied second in rushing touchdowns (11) helping the Stallions win its second straight USFL championship in 2023.
Before Birmingham, Wallace-Simms signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He played five NFL regular season games in two seasons with the Jaguars. After Jacksonville, Wallace-Simms was on the practice squad of the Houston Texans in 2022.
Collegiately, Wallace-Simms played four seasons at Missouri (2016-19) playing 47 games, of which 37 were starts at both guard positions for the Tigers.
In 2018, the Tigers’ offense ranked 13th nationally (third in the SEC) in total offense (481.8 AVG), 18th nationally (third in the SEC) in scoring (36.6 AVG), and 18th nationally (third in the SEC) in third down conversions (46.4%). He was a two-time Big M Iron Man Award and was named First Team All-SEC in 2018 by the Associated Press.
