The Calgary Stampeders are set to sign offensive lineman Trevon Tate to a one-year contract on Thursday according to 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk.
Trevon Tate is six foot four and weighs 295 pounds. The 27-year-old from Houston, Texas, started ten games for the Argonauts in 2023.
In 2023, Toronto’s offense ranked second in offensive average points (29.3), second in offensive touchdowns (56), second in average net offense (377.8), fourth in average rushing yards (113.7), fourth in average passing yards (272.2), and first the least number of sacks allowed (19).
In 2022, Tate played four games before suffering a season-ending elbow injury. Before Toronto, Tate signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2019. Then, Tate signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and made his CFL Debut against Toronto on November 2, 2019.
Tate played two games before Hamilton released him and he signed with Toronto in 2021. Later, the Redblacks signed Tate off the Argonauts’ practice squad and played one game. He returned to Toronto and played four games for Toronto.
Collegiately, Tate played four seasons at Memphis (2015-18) playing 39 games, of which 34 were starts at left tackle and right tackle for the Tigers.
In his last three seasons in Memphis, the Tigers’ offense combined for 19,275 yards of total offense (6,425 yards per season), scored 188 TD, and combined to score on 82.1 percent (156-of-190) of its trips inside the red zone. He was named to the All-American Athletic Conference first team in 2017.
