The Montreal Alouettes released defensive lineman Almondo Sewell on Thursday.

Almondo Sewell is six foot four and weighs 288 pounds. The 37-year-old from Buff Bay, Jamaica, had 14 tackles and one sack in 16 games for the Alouettes in 2023 helping them win the Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Alouettes signed Sewell as a free agent on February 9, 2021. In three seasons, Sewell made 52 tackles and nine sacks in 46 games.

Before Montreal, Sewell signed with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2011 with one tackle in three games. In 2012, he played for the Cleveland Gladiators (AFL) with 18.5 tackles, three sacks, one fumble recovery, and two forced fumbles in 18 games.

In the same year, he returned to the Eskimos. Sewell played nine seasons in Edmonton (2011-19) with 284 tackles, 60 sacks, and two fumble recoveries in 139 games. In 2015, he helped the Eskimos win the Grey Cup over the Ottawa Redblacks.

Collegiately, Sewell played four seasons at Akron (2007-10) with 223 tackles (119 solo, 104 assists), 26 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, one pass breakup, four forced fumbles, and two blocked kicks in 48 games. He was named to the All-MAC Second Team in 2007, and a two-time All-MAC Third Team in 2008 and 2009.
