The Montreal Alouettes are set to sign defensive lineman Derek Wiggan to a one-year contract on Thursday according to 3DownNation’s JC Abbott.
Derek Wiggan is six foot one and weighs 303 pounds. The 31-year-old from Toronto, Ontario, made 16 tackles and four sacks in 18 games for the Calgary Stampeders in 2023. The Stampeders drafted Wiggan in the fourth round (34th pick) of the 2014 CFL Draft.
Wiggan played eight seasons in Calgary with 161 tackles, six tackles on special teams, 19 sacks, one interception, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and one kick return for eight yards in 128 games for the Stampeders. He is a member of the 2018 Stampeders Grey Cup championship team.
Collegiately, Wiggan played five seasons at Queen’s University (2010-14) with 146 tackles (95 solo, 51 assists), 38 tackles for loss, 23 sacks, four pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries in 35 games for the Gaels.
