B.C. Lions release three players including running back Vance McShane

The B.C. Lions released running back Vance McShane, defensive lineman Woody Baron, and defensive back Quincy Mauger on Friday.

Vance McShane is five foot six and weighs 190 pounds. The 25-year-old from Freeport, Illinois, was on the Lions practice squad for most of the 2023 season. In 2022, he had 128 carries for 711 yards, three touchdowns, four catches for 14 yards, and four kick returns for 90 yards in 11 games for the Northern Iowa Panthers.

Collegiately, McShane started at St. Francis Xavier in Chicago, Illinois, for three seasons (2018-19, Spring 2021) with 480 carries for 2,516 yards, 23 touchdowns, 70 catches for 468 yards, four touchdowns, and 45 kick returns for 874 yards in 32 games for the Cougars.

He is a two-time All-MSFA Midwest League Second Team and MSFA Midwest League Offensive Player of the Week (9/10/18).

Then, McShane transferred to Northern Iowa (Fall 2021-22) with 189 carries for 1,042 yards, eight touchdowns, 11 catches for 99 yards, one touchdown, and four kick returns for 90 yards in 20 games for the Panthers.

Woody Baron is six foot one and weighs 270 pounds. The 30-year-old from Chicago, Illinois, made 22 tackles, eight sacks, and one forced fumble in 17 games for the Lions in 2023. In 2022, he made seven tackles and one sack in six games for the Lions. He missed part of the 2022 season with an ankle injury.

The Lions signed Baron as a free agent on February 14, 2022. Before joining the Lions, Baron played three seasons with the Montreal Alouettes with 71 tackles, 11 sacks, and one forced fumble in 50 games. In 2017, Baron signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent. However, he was among the final cuts in training camp.

Collegiately, Baron played four seasons at Virginia Tech (2013-16) with 99 tackles (55 solo, 44 assists), 27.5 tackles for loss, nine sacks, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in 52 games for the Hokies.

Quincy Mauger is six foot and weighs 206 pounds. The 28-year-old from Marietta, Georgia, made 47 tackles, 7 tackles on special teams, three sacks, and one interception in 18 games for the Lions in 2023. In 2022, Mauger made 19 tackles, two tackles on special teams, one sack, one interception for 25 yards, and one forced fumble in eight games.

Before B.C., Mauger signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He also had a brief stint with the Oakland Raiders in 2018. In 2019, he played for the Atlanta Legends of the Alliance of American Football (AAF) making one tackle (1 solo) in one game. Then, he played for the Blues of The Spring League (TSL) in 2020.

Collegiately, Mauger played four seasons at Georgia (2013-16) making 186 tackles (128 solo, 58 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions for 32 yards, 12 pass blocks, and one forced fumble in 50 games for the Bulldogs.
