The Ottawa Redblacks are set to re-sign defensive back Monshadrik “Money” Hunter on Friday as first reported by TSN 1200 Radio’s A.J. Jakubec. Hunter is the son of former Major League Baseball player Torii Hunter.
Monshadrik Hunter is six foot one and weighs 193 pounds. The 28-year-old from Prosper, Texas, made 11 tackles in four games for the Redblacks in 2023 after missing the majority of the season with a torn pectoral muscle during a training camp scrimmage. In 2022, Hunter made 38 tackles and four interceptions in 12 games for the Redblacks. The Redblacks signed Hunter as a free agent on February 9, 2022.
Before Ottawa, Hunter signed with the Edmonton Eskimos (now Elks) as a free agent in 2018. Hunter played two seasons in Edmonton with 85 tackles, 11 tackles on special teams, one sack, and four interceptions in 30 games.
Then, Hunter signed with the Montreal Alouettes on February 12, 2020. He made 44 tackles, one tackle on special teams, one sack, and two interceptions in 14 games for the Alouettes in 2021 on his way to being named a CFL East All-Star.
Collegiately, Hunter played four seasons at Arkansas State (2013-16) with 222 tackles (142 solo, 80 assists), three tackles for loss, one sack six interceptions, four touchdowns, 11 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 49 games for the Red Wolves.
