Ottawa Redblacks sign DBs Abu Daramy-Swaray and D.J. Stirgus

The Ottawa Redblacks signed defensive backs Abu Daramy-Swaray and D.J. Stirgus on Friday.

Abu Daramy-Swaray is five foot nine and weighs 176 pounds. The 27-year-old from Columbus, Ohio, made 23 tackles and one forced fumble in five games for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2023. He would later sign with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and was placed on the practice squad.

Before Winnipeg, Daramy-Swaray signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 2022. In addition, he spent time with the Arlington Renegades (XFL) in 2023.

In addition, Daramy-Swaray played for the Potsdam Royals (GFL) in 2022 with 39 tackles, two interceptions, nine pass breakups, one forced fumble, and two blocked kicks in 12 games.

Collegiately, Daramy-Swaray played four seasons at Colgate (2016-19) with 155 tackles (112 solo, 43 assists), 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, five interceptions for 72 yards, 26 pass breakups, three blocked kicks, 70 punt returns for 650 yards, one touchdown, 42 kick returns for 874 yards, five carries for 20 yards, one touchdown, and two catches for 26 yards in 44 games for the Raiders.

D.J. Stirgus is six foot one and weighs 202 pounds. The 23-year-old from Benton, Arkansas, made one tackle (1 solo) and one pass breakup in three preseason games for the Washington Commanders in 2023. The Commanders signed Stirgus as an undrafted free agent in 2023.

Collegiately, Stirgus played five seasons at Missouri Western State University (2018-22) with 81 tackles (57 solo, 24 assists), four tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions for 17 yards, 30 pass breakups which is eighth all-time in school history, and one blocked punt in 42 games for the Griffins. He was named First Team All-MIAA in 2022.
