The Toronto Argonauts re-signed offensive lineman Ryan Hunter to a one-year contract extension through the 2024 season on Monday.
Ryan Hunter is six foot three and weighs 315 pounds. The 28-year-old from North Bay, Ontario, played 18 games for the Argonauts in 2023.
In 2023, Toronto’s offense ranked second in offensive average points (29.3), second in offensive touchdowns (56), second in average net offense (377.8), fourth in average rushing yards (113.7), fourth in average passing yards (272.2), and first the least number of sacks allowed (19).
The Argonauts drafted Hunter in the first round (9th pick) in the 2018 CFL Draft. However, he did not sign with them and instead went to the NFL.
Hunter signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent and played three games in 2019, including Super Bowl LIV, when the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers to win its first championship since 1969.
After Kansas City, Hunter signed with the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad. The Chargers released him on August 30, 2022.
Collegiately, Hunter spent five seasons at Bowling Green (2013-17), playing 52 games at left tackle and right tackle. In 2017, The Falcons’ offense helped a run game that produced a pair of 700-yard running backs, including true freshman Andrew Clair, who was named Third Team All-MAC. He is a four-time Academic All-MAC and three-time MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete.
