Hamilton Tiger-Cats sign three players including WR Luther Hakunavanhu

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed offensive lineman Evan Johnson, fullback  James Tuck, and wide receiver Luther Hakunavanhu according to 3DownNation’s John Hodge.

James Tuck is six foot and weighs 230 pounds. The 33-year-old from Aurora, Ontario, made nine catches for 57 yards, and one tackle in 18 games for the Montreal Alouettes in 2023. The Alouettes signed Tuck as a free agent on February 14, 2023.

The Alouettes originally drafted Tuck in the fourth round (31st pick) of the 2014 CFL Draft. He played two and a half seasons in Montreal with one tackle, nine tackles on special teams, and one kick return for -4 yards in 15 games.

Next, he signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2016 making six tackles on special teams. In 2017, he split his time with the Toronto Argonauts and Edmonton Eskimos making 28 tackles and two fumble fumbles in 18 games. He would spend an additional two seasons in Edmonton with one tackle, 19 tackles on special teams, one forced fumble, one carry for five yards, and three catches for 45 yards in 32 games.

In 2022, Tuck signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders with four catches for 38 yards, and three tackles on special teams in 15 games.

Collegiately, Tuck played four seasons at York University (2010-13) with 107 tackles (90 solo, 37 assists), 18 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, one touchdown, one catch for -3 yards, and one kick return for seven yards in 27 games for the Lions.

Luther Hakunavanhu is six foot four and weighs 209 pounds. The 27-year-old from Gweru, Zimbabwe, made 23 catches for 311 yards, three touchdowns, and one carry for -5 yards in 16 games for the Calgary Stampeders in 2023.

The Stampeders drafted Hakunavanhu in the fifth round (44th pick) of the 2021 CFL Draft. In three seasons, Hakunavanhu has made 57 catches for 842 yards, eight touchdowns, and one carry for -5 yards in 35 games.

Collegiately, Hakunavanhu played three seasons at York University (2017-19) making 68 catches for 938 yards, five touchdowns, and 17 tackles (14 solo, 3 assists) in 21 games for the Lions.

Evan Johnson is six foot four and weighs 290 pounds. The 29-year-old from Regina, Saskatchewan, played 17 games for the Roughriders in 2023.

In 2023, Saskatchewan’s offense finished eighth in average points per game (20.3), sixth in offensive touchdowns (34), fifth in average net offense (346.4), eighth in average rushing yards (84.4), third in average passing yards (280.4), and seventh in sacks allowed (54). The Roughriders signed Johnson as a free agent on February 9, 2021. He’s played 35 games in two seasons with the Roughriders.

Before Saskatchewan, the Ottawa Redblacks drafted Johnson in the first round (9th pick) of the 2017 CFL Draft. He played 52 games in three seasons with the Redblacks. Collegiately, Johnson played four seasons at the University of Saskatchewan (2013-16) playing 19 games for the Huskies.
