The Toronto Argonauts re-signed running back Deonta McMahon and offensive lineman Dejon Allen for the 2024 season on Thursday.
Deonta McMahon is five foot nine and weighs 185 pounds. The 24-year-old from Frostproof, Florida, made 38 carries for 134 yards, three touchdowns, 10 catches for 64 yards, and four kick returns for 80 yards in seven games for the Toronto Argonauts in 2023. The Argo’s signed McMahon as a free agent on May 3, 2023.
Collegiately, McMahon played two seasons at Butte College (2018-19) with 236 carries for 1,507 yards, 19 touchdowns, 18 catches for 210 yards, four kick returns for 111 yards, and one punt return for five yards in 17 games for the Road Runners. He was named All-American in 2018.
Then, he transferred to McNeese State (2020-22) with 337 carries for 2,155 yards, 21 touchdowns, 57 catches for 519 yards, two touchdowns, 13 kick returns for 272 yards, one pass for 33 yards, and one touchdown in 27 games for the Cowboys. He was named All-Southland Conference Second Team in 2021 and First-Team All-Conference in 2022.
Dejon Allen is six foot two and weighs 300 pounds. The 29-year-old from Compton, California, started 16 games for the Toronto Argonauts in 2023.
In 2023, Toronto’s offense ranked second in offensive average points (29.3), second in offensive touchdowns (56), second in average net offense (377.8), fourth in average rushing yards (113.7), fourth in average passing yards (272.2), and first the least number of sacks allowed (19).
Allen is a two-time CFL East All-Star and CFL All-Star. The Argonauts signed Allen as a free agent on December 20, 2020. He played 46 games in three seasons helping Toronto win the Grey Cup in 2022.
Before Toronto, Allen signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He also had stints with the Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Battlehawks (XFL).
Collegiately, Allen played four seasons at Hawaii (2014-17) playing both guard positions in 50 games for the Rainbow Warriors. In 2017, Hawaii had its best rushing average (168.2) in 22 years. He was named First Team All-Mountain West in 2017.
