Toronto Argonauts sign three players including RB Khalan Laborn

The Toronto Argonauts signed running back Khalan Laborn, and defensive backs Darius Joiner and Kary Vincent Jr. on Thursday.

Khalan Laborn is five foot eleven and weighs 212 pounds. The 24-year-old from Virginia Beach, Virginia, signed with the Edmonton Elks on September 6, 2023, and was placed on the practice squad. Laborn, along with defensive lineman Jake Ceresna were traded to the Toronto Argonauts on January 15, 2024, for wide receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr. and a 2024 seventh-round draft pick.

Laborn played one season at Marshall University in 2022 with 302 carries for 1,513 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 16 catches for 116 yards in 13 games for the Thundering Herd.

Before Marshall, Laborn played three seasons at Florida State (2018-20) with 63 carries for 297 yards, four touchdowns, and 11 catches for 103 yards in 12 games for the Seminoles.

Darius Joiner is six foot two and weighs 200 pounds. The 25-year-old from Roanoke, Alabama, made one tackle (1 solo) in one preseason game for the Houston Texans against the New Orleans Saints in 2023. The Texans signed Joiner as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023.

Collegiately, Joiner played four seasons at Jacksonville State (2017-20) with 81 tackles (43 solo, 38 assists), four tackles for loss, one interception for 24 yards, and four pass breakups in 29 games for the Gamecocks.

Next, he transferred to Western Illinois in 2021 making 142 tackles (79 solo, 63 assists), seven tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception, six pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 11 games for the Leathernecks. He was named First Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference and MVFC All-Newcomer Team in 2021.

Then, he transferred to Duke in 2022 with 97 tackles (62 solo, 35 assists), eight tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions for three yards, seven pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 13 games for the Blue Devils. He was named Third Team All-ACC in 2022.

Kary Vincent Jr. is five foot ten and weighs 189 pounds. The 24-year-old from Port Arthur, Texas, made five tackles (4 solo, 1 assist) and three pass breakups in six games for the Houston Roughnecks (XFL) in 2023. The Roughnecks acquired him from the San Antonio Brahmas on January 23, 2023.

Before Houston, Vincent Jr. was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round (237th pick) of the 2021 NFL Draft. He was later traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021 for a 2022 sixth round pick. Vincent Jr. played two regular season games for the Eagles making two tackles (2 solo). Vincent Jr. would also have a brief stint with the San Francisco 49ers in 2022.

Collegiately, Vincent Jr. played three seasons at Louisiana State University (2017-19) making 87 tackles (60 solo, 27 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, six interceptions for 45 yards, and 15 pass breakups in 39 games for the Tigers.
