The Madrid Bravos signed quarterback Chris Helbig for the 2024 season on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

Chris Helbig is six foot four and weighs 214 pounds. The 26-year-old from Broomfield, Colorado, completed 175 of 277 passes (63.2%) for 2,372 yards, 18 touchdowns, six interceptions, 64 carries for 252 yards, and nine touchdowns in 11 games for the Vienna Vikings in 2023.

In 2022, Helbig played for the Potsdam Royals (GFL) completing 231 of 346 passes (66.8%) for 3,406 yards, 36 touchdowns, five interceptions, 74 carries for 408 yards, 13 touchdowns, one catch for 30 yards, and one touchdown in 12 games leading the Royals to the German Bowl.

Collegiately, Helbig started as a redshirt freshman at Colorado in 2016. Next, he transferred to Butler Community College in 2017 completing 149 of 258 passes (57.8%) for 1,661 yards, 16 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 46 carries for 40 yards, and three touchdowns in 11 games for the Grizzlies.

Then, Helbig transferred to Southern Utah University (2018-19) completing 370 of 564 passes (66%) for 3,963 yards, 20 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, 162 carries for 217 yards, 11 touchdowns, three catches for 53 yards, and one touchdown in 16 games for the Thunderbirds. In 2020, Helbig transferred to Eastern Michigan University but did not play a game for the Eagles.
