The Philadelphia Eagles have re-signed tight end Albert Okwuegbunam to a one-year contract extension through the 2024 season on Thursday according to ESPN’s Field Yates. Okwuegbunam was set to be a free agent next month.
Albert Okwuegbunam is six foot five and weighs 258 pounds. The 25-year-old from Springfield, Illinois, appeared in four games for the Eagles in 2023 targeted one time. The Eagles acquired Okwuegbunam, along with a 2025 seventh-round draft pick from the Denver Broncos on August 29, 2023, for a 2025 sixth-round draft pick.
Before Philadelphia, the Broncos drafted Okwuegbunam in the fourth round (118th pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft. Last season, Okwuegbunam caught ten passes for 95 yards, and one touchdown in eight games. Okwuegbunam played three seasons in Denver (2020-22) with 54 catches for 546 yards, and four touchdowns in 26 games.
In the 2023 preseason, Okwuegbunam played one game for the Broncos on August 27, 2023, against the Los Angeles Rams with seven catches for 109 yards, and one touchdown.
Collegiately, Okwuegbunam played three seasons at the University of Missouri (2017-19) with 79 catches for 928 yards and 17 touchdowns in 25 games for the Tigers. He decided to forgo his final year of eligibility to enter and declare for the 2020 NFL Draft.
Okwuegbunam was named Freshman All-SEC Team and Second Team All-SEC in 2017. In addition, he was a John Mackey Award Finalist in 2018.
