The B.C. Lions signed offensive lineman Maea Teuhema on Friday. Teuhema is the younger brother of current B.C. defensive lineman Sione Teuhema.
Maea Teuhema is six foot five and weighs 315 pounds. The 27-year-old from Keller, Texas, started five games for the San Antonio Brahmas (XFL) in 2023. The Brahmas signed Teuhema as a free agent on February 21, 2023.
Before San Antonio, Teuhema signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2018. Next, he signed with the San Antonio Commanders (AAF) in 2019 playing three games before the league ceased operations after eight weeks into the regular season.
In the same year, he was drafted by the Dallas Renegades (XFL) before he was waived and later claimed by the New York Guardians (XFL). Teuhema was released by the Guardians and was later added to the Team 9 practice squad.
Next, Teuhema signed with the Frisco Fighters (IFL) in 2021. He played three games for the Fighters with nine tackles (7 solo, 2 assists), three tackles for loss, and one sack. The Fighters averaged 39.9 points per game, 77.1 average rushing yards per game, 131 average passing yards per game, and 78 touchdowns.
After Frisco, the Michigan Panthers (USFL) drafted Teuhema in the second round (289th pick) in the 2022 USFL Supplemental Draft. He played ten games for the Panthers in 2022 making one tackle (1 solo).
Collegiately, Teuhema played two seasons at Louisiana State University (2015-16) playing both guard positions and left tackle in 24 games for the Tigers. LSU’s offensive line helped pave the way for back-to-back 1,000-yard rushers in Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice. In 2015, LSU ranked seventh in rushing yards at 256.8 yards per game as the Tigers’ offensive line helped Leonard Fournette set the LSU single-season rushing record of 1,953 yards.
He was named True Freshman All-American by ESPN after the season. In 2016, LSU finished No. 4 in the SEC with 233.0 rushing yards per game with 30 TDs. Then, Teuhema transferred to Southeastern Louisiana in 2017 starting 11 games for the Lions.
