Toronto Argonauts linebacker Henoc Muamba announced his retirement from professional football on Monday.

Henoc Muamba is six foot and weighs 230 pounds. The 34-year-old from Kinshasa, Zaire, missed the 2023 season with a knee injury. In 2022, Muamba played a key role in helping the Argonauts win the 109th Grey Cup with 75 tackles, one tackle on special teams, three sacks, and two interceptions in 17 games. He was named Grey Cup MVP after making three tackles and one interception.

The Argonauts signed Muamba as a free agent on March 16, 2021. In two seasons, Muamba has 127 tackles, three tackles on special teams, five sacks, and three interceptions in 27 games.

Before Toronto, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers drafted Muamba as the number one overall pick in the 2011 CFL Draft out of St. Francis Xavier University. Muamba played three seasons in Winnipeg with 207 tackles, four sacks, one interception, one touchdown, and six forced fumbles in 47 games before being released for an opportunity in the NFL.

Ten, Muamba signed with the Indianapolis Colts in 2014 and made 3.5 tackles in 13 games. After the Colts, he went back to the CFL, signing with the Montreal Alouettes. He played one season in Montreal with 14 tackles and one interception in four games before returning to the NFL and signing with the Dallas Cowboys.

He was released on the final day of training camp. Muamba returned to the CFL for the third time as he signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He played two seasons in Saskatchewan with 100 tackles, 20 tackles on special teams, two sacks, two interceptions, and five forced fumbles in 22 games.

Afterward, Muamba signed with the Montreal Alouettes for his second stint. He made 201 tackles, one tackle one special teams, six sacks, one interception, and three forced fumbles in 35 games.

Collegiately, Muamba played four seasons at St. Francis Xavier University (2007-10) and graduated as the X-Men’s all-time leader in tackles (149.5). He won the President’s Trophy in 2010 as the U Sports Most Outstanding Defensive Player. In addition, he is a two-time First Team All-Canadian (2009-10), and Second Team in 2008.
