The Houston Roughnecks signed wide receiver Whop Philyor on Thursday. The Roughnecks also released defensive backs Nick Grant and Shahman Moore.
Whop Philyor is five foot eleven and weighs 180 pounds. The 25-year-old from Tampa, Florida, played one game for the Michigan Panthers (USFL) in 2023 recording no stats. Before Michigan, Philyor signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2021 and later with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2022.
Collegiately, Philyor played four seasons at Indiana University (2017-20) making 180 catches for 2,067 yards, 12 touchdowns, 21 carries for 134 yards, three kick returns for 66 yards, 15 punt returns for 49 yards, and six tackles (3 solo, 3 assists) in 38 games for the Hoosiers.
Philyor is currently Indiana’s all-time leader in double-digit catch games (7), ranks fourth in receptions (180), shares fourth in 100-yard games (7), sits ninth in yardage (2,067), and is tied for 16th in touchdowns (12).
Nick Grant is six foot three and weighs 185 pounds. The 26-year-old from Spotsylvania, Virginia, made 28 tackles (20 solo, 8 assists), two tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, and three pass breakups in ten games for the Houston Gamblers (USFL) in 2023.
The Gamblers signed Grant as a free agent on September 29, 2022. Before Houston, Grant signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in 2022.
Collegiately, Grant played five seasons at Virginia (2017-21) with 138 tackles (97 solo, 41 assists), six tackles for loss, half a sack, four interceptions for 85 yards, 24 pass breakups, and one touchdown in 59 games for the Cavaliers.
Shahman Moore is six foot one and weighs 175 pounds. The 26-year-old from Oakland, California, signed with the Roughnecks on January 23, 2024. Before Houston, Moore had rookie mini-camp tryouts with the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers in 2022.
In 2023, Moore played for the Northern Arizona Wranglers (IFL) making 16 tackles (13 solo, 3 assists), one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery in two games.
Collegiately, Moore played two seasons at El Camino Community College (2016-17) with 49 tackles (30 solo, 19 assists), one tackle for loss, six interceptions for 116 yards, and nine pass breakups in 20 games for the Warriors. He was named First Team All-Central League in 2017 and Second Team All-Central League in 2016.
After redshirting his third season at El Camino Community College in 2018, Moore transferred to Washington State in 2019 making two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) in seven games for the Cougars. Then, he transferred to West Florida in 2021 with 15 tackles (13 solo, 2 assists) and one pass breakup in 10 games for the Argonauts.
