The D.C. Defenders signed tight end Kaden Smith on Friday.

Kaden Smith is six foot five and weighs 249 pounds. The 26-year-old from Flower Mound, Texas, appeared in two preseason games for the Washington Commanders in 2023 but recorded no stats. The Commanders signed Smith as a free agent on August 13, 2023.

Before Washington, Smith was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round (176th pick) of the 2019 NFL Draft. He was later claimed off waivers by the New York Giants in the same year playing nine games making 31 catches for 268 yards, three touchdowns, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

Smith spent three seasons in New York making 52 catches for 413 yards, three touchdowns, two tackles (2 solo), three forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in 33 games. After the Giants, Smith signed with the Indianapolis Colts on May 24, 2023, but was released on August 1, 2023.

Collegiately, Smith played three seasons at Stanford (2016-18) making 70 catches for 1,049 yards, 7 touchdowns, one kick return for -5 yards, and four tackles (3 solo, 1 assist) in 25 games for the Cardinal. He was named Second Team All-PAC 12 in 2018.
