The Houston Roughnecks signed defensive backs Kiondre Thomas and Jamari Brown while releasing defensive tackle Damion Daniels on Saturday.
Kiondre Thomas is six foot and weighs 185 pounds. The 26-year-old from Fort Smith, Arkansas, made four tackles (3 solo, 1 assist) in three preseason games for the Green Bay Packers in 2023. He appeared in one regular season game in 2023 with one fumble recovery. The Packers signed Thomas as a free agent on January 26, 2022, and spent two seasons on the practice squad.
Before Green Bay, Thomas signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2021. He also spent time with the Los Angeles Chargers playing four games for them in 2021 with one tackle (1 assist).
Collegiately, Thomas played three seasons at Minnesota (2017-19) with 75 tackles (64 solo, 11 assists), two tackles for loss, one interception, eight pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 32 games for the Gophers.
Then, Thomas transferred to Kansas State in 2020 with 27 tackles (22 solo, 5 assists), and four pass breakups in eight games for the Wildcats.
Jamari Brown is five foot eleven and weighs 198 pounds. The 23-year-old from Miami, Florida, made 59 tackles (33 solo, 26 assists), 2.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions for 33 yards, one touchdown, and five pass breakups in 10 games for the Bulldogs in 2023.
Collegiately, Brown played five seasons at Gardner-Webb University (2019-23) with 197 tackles (121 solo, 76 assists), 6.5 tackles for loss, one sack, eight interceptions for 142 yards, two touchdowns, 19 pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries in 46 games for the Bulldogs. He was named First Team All-SoCon in 2022.
Damion Daniels is six foot three and weighs 325 pounds. The 24-year-old from Dallas, Texas, made six tackles (1 solo, 5 assists) in three games for the Houston Gamblers (USFL) in 2023. The Gamblers signed Daniels as a free agent on March 21, 2023.
Before Houston, Daniels signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2022. Then, Daniels was drafted by the St. Louis Battlehawks (XFL) in the third round (22nd pick) in Phase 6 of the 2022 XFL Draft. He made one tackle (1 solo) in one game in 2023 before he was released on March 14, 2023.
Collegiately, Daniels played four seasons at Nebraska (2018-21) making 83 tackles (29 solo, 54 assists), eight tackles for loss, one interception, two pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 32 games for the Cornhuskers. He was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2021 by the coaches and media. He also served as Team Captain in 2021.
