The Montreal Alouettes released linebacker CJ Avery on Tuesday.

C.J. Avery is five foot eleven and weighs 230 pounds. The 24-year-old from Grenada, Mississippi, signed with the Montreal Alouettes on January 5, 2024.

Before Montreal, Avery signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2022. Next, the Vegas Vipers drafted Avery in the eighth round (64th pick) of the 2023 XFL Draft. Avery made 62 tackles (33 solo, 29 assists), three forced fumbles, and one interception in ten games for the Vegas Vipers (XFL) in 2023.

Collegiately, Avery played five seasons at Louisville (2017-21) with 349 tackles (199 solo, 150 assists), 20 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, three interceptions for 68 yards, 19 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries in 59 games for the Cardinals.
