The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed defensive back Jamar Johnson on Tuesday.
Jamar Johnson is six foot one and weighs 197 pounds. The 24-year-old from Sarasota, Florida, signed with the Arlington Renegades (XFL) on March 7, 2023. He made seven tackles (4 solo, 3 assists) in four games before he was released on April 19, 2023.
Next, he signed with the New Orleans Breakers (USFL) making 11 tackles (9 solo, 2 assists), and one pass breakup in three games. Before Arlington, Johnson was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round (164th pick) of the 2021 NFL Draft.
He played in three regular season games in his rookie year. In the 2022 preseason, Johnson made seven tackles (5 solo, 2 assists) in one game against the Dallas Cowboys before he was released on August 16, 2022.
Collegiately, Johnson played three seasons at Indiana (2018-20) with 70 tackles (53 solo, 17 assists), eight tackles for loss, four sacks, seven interceptions for 166 yards, one touchdown, 14 pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 31 games for the Hoosiers.
Johnson was named First Team All-Big Ten in 2020 by the media and Second Team All-Big Ten by the coaches in 2020. In 2020, Johnson became the first Indiana safety to earn First Team All-Big Ten honors since Eric Allen in 1996. In addition, Johnson earned the team’s Corby Davis Memorial Award (Outstanding Back).
