The D.C. Defenders added tight end Alex Ellis to the active roster on Monday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Alex Ellis is six foot four and weighs 240 pounds. The 31-year-old from Delmar, Delaware, made eight catches for 59 yards, and four touchdowns in seven games for the D.C. Defenders in 2023 helping them reach the XFL Championship Game against the Arlington Renegades. The Defenders acquired Ellis from the Arlington Renegades on March 6, 2023. The Renegades drafted Ellis in the eighth round (58th pick) in Phase 1 of the 2022 XFL Draft.
Before D.C., Ellis signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He would later sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars off Tennessee’s practice squad. Ellis made three catches for 11 yards, and one tackle (1) in six games.
Ellis also had stints with the New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, and Arizona Cardinals. Ellis played 11 NFL regular season games making three catches for 11 yards and one tackle (1 solo).
Collegiately, Ellis played five seasons at Tennessee (2011-15) making 14 catches for 232 yards, and one touchdown in 26 games for the Volunteers.
