Calgary Stampeders sign defensive back Josh Thomas

The Calgary Stampeders signed defensive back Josh Thomas on Tuesday.

Josh Thomas is six foot and weighs 205 pounds. The 27-year-old from Montgomery, Alabama, made six tackles (4 solo, 2 assists) in three preseason games for the Carolina Panthers in 2023. The Panthers acquired Thomas off waivers from the Arizona Cardinals on June 15, 2023.

Before Carolina, Thomas signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He made one tackle (1 solo) in two games for the Bills before spending the rest of the season on the practice squad. After Thomas was released by the Bills in 2022, he signed with the Arizona Cardinals on September 1, 2022, and played two games making four tackles (4 solo) before spending the rest of the season on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Thomas played five seasons at Appalachian State (2015-19) with 163 tackles (109 solo, 54 assists), 7.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions for 70 yards, one touchdown, 14 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 56 games for the Mountaineers.

Thomas was named Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference by PFF College in 2018, First Team All-Sun Belt Conference by PFF College in 2019, and was a team captain for the last two seasons of his collegiate career.
