The St. Louis Battlehawks released defensive back Mykael Wright on Sunday night according to the UFL Transactions page.
Mykael Wright is five foot eleven and weighs 178 pounds. The 23-year-old from Antelope Valley, California, made 12 tackles (10 solo, 2 assists), two pass breakups, and one forced fumble in seven games for the Seattle Sea Dragons (XFL) in 2023. The Sea Dragons drafted Wright in the 11th round (87th pick) in Phase 2 of the 2023 XFL Draft.
The Sea Dragons were not included in the XFL and USFL merger that formed the United Football League (UFL). Wright was drafted by the St. Louis Battlehawks in the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft. Before St. Louis, Wright went undrafted in 2022 and attended a rookie minicamp with the Arizona Cardinals but was not signed to a contract.
Collegiately, Wright played three seasons at Oregon (2019-21) with 111 tackles (79 solo, 32 assists), six tackles for loss, two interceptions, 19 pass breakups, one forced fumble, 35 kick returns for 982 yards, two touchdowns, and one punt return for -1 yard in 34 games for the Ducks.
Wright was named a two-time All-PAC 12 Honorable Mention by the coaches in 2019 and 2021, First Team All-PAC 12 by the coaches, Phil Steele, and the Associated Press in 2020, and First Team All-PAC 12 as a kick returner by Pro Football Focus and Third Team All-PAC 12 as a defensive back by Pro Football Focus in 2021.
