The Birmingham Stallions signed defensive end Taco Charlton and placed defensive end Willie Yarbary on injured reserve on Tuesday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Taco Charlton is six foot five and weighs 270 pounds. The 29-year-old from Columbus, Ohio, played one preseason game for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023. He suffered a hamstring injury and missed the last two preseason games before being released on August 26, 2023. The 49ers signed Charlton as a free agent on August 1, 2023.
Before San Francisco, Charlton was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round (28th pick) of the 2017 NFL Draft. He played two seasons in Dallas with 46 tackles (28 solo, 18 assists), eight tackles for loss, 11 quarterback hits, four sacks, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 27 games. The Miami Dolphins acquired Charlton off waivers from the Cowboys in 2019.
He played one season in Miami with 21 tackles (14 solo, 7 assists), three tackles for loss, five quarterback hits, five sacks, and two forced fumbles in 10 games. In 2020, Charlton signed with the Kansas City Chiefs with seven tackles (4 solo, 3 assists), one tackle for loss, four quarterback hits, two sacks, and one forced fumble in seven games.
Charlton later played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021 with 18 tackles (7 solo, 11 assists), two quarterback hits, half a sack, and one pass breakup in 11 games, and played for the Chicago Bears in 2022 with three tackles (1 solo, 2 assists) in five games. After the Bears released him on December 28, 2023, Charlton signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars five days later.
Collegiately, Charlton played four seasons at Michigan (2013-16) with 93 tackles (56 solo, 37 assists), 28 tackles for loss, 19 sacks, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 46 games for the Wolverines. He was named First Team All-Big Ten in 2016.
Willie Yarbary is six foot three and weighs 295 pounds. The 27-year-old from Augusta, Georgia, had 33 tackles (14 solo, 19 assists), three tackles for loss, four sacks, one fumble recovery, and one pass breakup in ten games helping the Stallions win their second straight USFL championship over the Pittsburgh Maulers.
The Stallions drafted Yarbary in the 24th round (198th pick) of the 2022 USFL Draft. Yarbary made 35 tackles (15 solo, 20 assists), four tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and four pass breakups in ten games in 2022 helping the Stallions beat the Philadelphia Stars in the championship game.
Before Birmingham, Yarbary signed with the Toronto Argonauts (CFL) on June 3, 2019, but was released after training camp. He later played for the Massachusetts Pirates (NAL) in 2019 with 4.5 tackles and 2.5 sacks in three games.
Then, Yarbary played for the Conquerors (TSL) in 2021 before signing with the Los Angeles Chargers. He played three preseason games for the Chargers with seven tackles (3 solo, 4 assists).
Collegiately, Yarbary played five seasons at Wake Forest (2014-18) with 116 tackles (65 solo, 51 assists), 21.5 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, two pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 49 games for the Demon Deacons.
