The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have hired former CFL fullback Calvin McCarty as running backs coach on Tuesday according to 3DownNation’s John Hodge. McCarty has been coaching at the junior and high school levels.
Calvin McCarty is five foot ten and weighs 235 pounds. The 39-year-old from Muskogee, Oklahoma, played 14 CFL seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos (2007-19) and Calgary Stampeders (2021) with 337 carries for 1,615 yards, 17 touchdowns, 265 catches for 2,019 yards, 12 touchdowns, four kick returns for 24 yards, 12 tackles, 81 tackles on special teams, and one forced fumble in 203 games. McCarty was drafted by the Eskimos in the fourth round (27th pick) in the 2007 CFL Draft. He is a member of the 2015 Grey Cup Championship team.
Collegiately, McCarty played two seasons at Boise State (2003-04) with 10 carries for 104 yards, and one touchdown in seven games helping the Broncos win the WAC Championship.
Next, McCarty transferred to Reedley College in 2005 where he had 620 rushing yards, 500 receiving yards, and scored 14 touchdowns for the Tigers helping them win the Valley Conference Championship.
Then, he transferred to Western Washington in 2006 with 130 carries for 492 yards, five touchdowns, and 30 catches for 278 yards in seven games for the Vikings before an injury sidelined him. He was named Second Team All-North Central Conference after the season.
