The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed defensive linemen Derrick Tangelo and Jason Lewan on Tuesday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Derrick Tangelo is six foot one and weighs 296 pounds. The 24-year-old from Gaithersburg, Maryland, made seven tackles (5 solo, 2 assists), and one sack in three preseason games for the Atlanta Falcons in 2023. The Falcons signed Tangelo as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2023.
Collegiately, Tangelo played four seasons at Duke (2017-20) with 114 tackles (58 solo, 56 assists), 12 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one pass breakup, five forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 45 games for the Blue Devils.
Then, Tangelo transferred to Penn State in 2021 with 29 tackles (14 solo, 15 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 12 games for the Nittany Lions.
Jason Lewan is six foot six and weighs 293 pounds. The 25-year-old from Yorkville, Illinois, signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2023, appearing in one preseason game before he was released on August 29, 2023. Then, Lewan signed with the San Antonio Brahmas (UFL) on January 19, 2024, but was released on March 10, 2024.
Collegiately, Lewan played five seasons at Illinois State (2018-22) with 100 tackles (49 solo, 51 assists), 10 tackles for loss, five sacks, eight pass breakups, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one blocked punt in 47 games for the Redbirds.
