The San Antonio Brahmas (2-0) visited Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon against the Memphis Showboats (1-1) to kick off Week 2 of the UFL season.
San Antonio was shut out for three quarters trailing 16-0. They scored 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to stun the Memphis Showboats by the final score of 20-19.
San Antonio had 310 yards on offense. Quarterback Chase Garbers completed 29 of 40 passes (73%) for 287 yards, three touchdowns, one interception, and three carries for 20 yards. Garbers first touchdown happened in the third quarter throwing a 10-yard touchdown to Marquez Stevenson. San Antonio successfully converted a two-point conversion that made it 16-8.
Next, Garbers threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Jontre Kirklin but they failed the three-point conversion. Then, Garbers threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Cody Latimer with three seconds left of the game.
San Antonio running back John Lovett had three carries for 10 yards and two catches for -5 yards. San Antonio’s running back finished the afternoon with 11 carries for 36 yards. Wide receiver Cody Latimer led San Antonio in receiving with 8 catches for 91 yards, and one touchdown. The receivers finished the afternoon making 29 catches for 287 yards, and three touchdowns.
San Antonio’s defense had 70 tackles led by defensive back Jordan Mosley with 10 tackles (8 solo, 2 assists). The rest of the defense had three sacks, eight tackles for loss, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
Memphis had 288 yards on offense. Quarterback Case Cookus completed 17 of 31 passes (55%) for 194 yards, one touchdown, and nine carries for 58 yards. Cookus’s lone touchdown pass came in the first quarter to Daewood Davis for two yards giving them a 7-0 lead after Cookus converted the one-point play.
Memphis running back Darius Victor had 17 carries for 54 yards and two catches for 11 yards. Memphis’s rushers finished the afternoon with 31 carries for 112 yards. Wide receiver Daewood Davis led the receivers with six catches for 58 yards and one touchdown. The receivers finished the afternoon with 17 catches for 194 yards and one touchdown.
Memphis’s defense had 46 tackles, two sacks, six tackles for loss, one interception, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. Kicker Matt Coghlin made four field goals with a long of 35 yards.
Next weekend, the Memphis Showboats visit the Birmingham Stallions on Saturday at 7:30 pm on FOX, while the San Antonio Brahmas host the St. Louis Battlehawks on Sunday at 3 pm on ABC.
