Birmingham Stallions improve to 2-0 with a win at Michigan

The Birmingham Stallions (2-0) visited Ford Field on Sunday afternoon against the Michigan Panthers (1-1) with 7,475 in attendance.

The Stallions had won eight straight games coming into the game. The last time the Stallions lost was on May 13, 2023, against the Houston Gamblers. The Stallions would extend their winning streak to nine games with a 20-13 win over the Panthers.

Birmingham had 302 yards on offense. Quarterback Matt Corral completed 5 of 12 passes (42%) for 53 yards, one interception, and four carries for 28 yards, while backup quarterback Adrian Martinez completed 8 of 15 passes (53%) for 88 yards, and eight carries for 65 yards.

Birmingham running back C.J. Marable led the rushers with 14 carries for 54 yards, and three catches for 29 yards, while Ricky Person Jr. had seven carries for 14 yards, one touchdown, and two catches for 26 yards. Person’s touchdown happened in the second quarter for one yard plus a successful one-point conversion made it 17-7.

The rushers finished the afternoon with 33 carries for 161 yards, and one touchdown. Birmingham wide receiver Marlon Williams led the receivers with three catches for 32 yards. Birmingham’s receivers finished the afternoon with 13 catches for 141 yards.

Birmingham’s defense made 48 tackles led by Lorenzo Burns with 7 tackles (6 solo, 1 assist), along with eight tackles for loss, seven sacks (3 by Taco Charlton), seven pass breakups, one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. Kicker Chris Blewitt made four field goals with a long of 38 yards.

Michigan had 205 yards on offense. Quarterback E.J. Perry completed 20 of 33 passes (61%) for 203 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and four carries for 25 yards. Perry’s one touchdown happened in the second quarter finding Marcus Simms for a 76-yard touchdown plus converting the one-point play that made it 9-7 Stallions.

Michigan running back Wes Hills had 7 carries for 10 yards and four catches for 19 yards. The rushers finished the afternoon with 14 carries for 47 yards. Wide receiver Trey Quinn led the receivers with five catches for 27 yards. The receivers finished the afternoon with 20 catches for 203 yards and one touchdown.

Michigan’s defense made 57 tackles led by Frank Ginda with 14 tackles (8 solo, 6 assists), along with four tackles for loss, one interception, and four pass breakups. Michigan kicker Jake Bates made two field goals with a long of 62 yards.

Next weekend, the Birmingham Stallions host the Memphis Showboats on Saturday at 7 pm on FOX, while the Michigan Panthers host the Houston Roughnecks on Sunday at 12 pm on ABC.
