The Houston Roughnecks released defensive back Jeremiah Johnson and re-activated defensive back Kiondre Thomas from the suspended list on Monday according to Pro Football Newsroom’s James Larsen.

Jeremiah Johnson is six foot one and weighs 185 pounds. The 30-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland, re-signed with the Houston Gamblers (USFL) on September 29, 2023. The Gamblers were rebranded as the Roughnecks as part of the USFL and XFL merger forming the United Football League (UFL).

However, Johnson was released on March 10, 2024, and re-signed with the Houston Roughnecks on March 12, 2024. Johnson made six tackles (5 solo, 1 assist), one pass breakup, and one forced fumble in three games for the Roughnecks in 2023.

The Houston Gamblers (now Roughnecks) signed Johnson as a free agent on May 5, 2022. Johnson made 22 tackles (16 solo, 6 assists), one tackle for loss, one interception, and three pass breakups in seven games for the Gamblers in 2022.

In 2023, Johnson made 33 tackles (25 solo, 8 assists), one interception for 21 yards, one fumble recovery, and four pass breakups in ten games for the Houston Gamblers.

Collegiately, Johnson played four seasons at Concord (2014-17) with 191 tackles (141 solo, 50 assists), seven tackles for loss, seven interceptions for 116 yards, one touchdown, and 36 pass breakups in 44 games for the Mountain Lions. He was a four-time First Team All-MEC.

Kiondre Thomas is six foot and weighs 185 pounds. The 26-year-old from Fort Smith, Arkansas, signed with Houston Roughnecks on March 2, 2024. Thomas was removed from the Roughnecks roster on March 19 according to Pro Football Newsroom’s Nicholas Thorn, and Larsen confirmed that Thomas was suspended during that time.

In 2023, Thomas made four tackles (3 solo, 1 assist) in three preseason games for the Green Bay Packers. He appeared in one regular season game in 2023 with one fumble recovery. The Packers signed Thomas as a free agent on January 26, 2022, and spent two seasons on the practice squad.

Before Green Bay, Thomas signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2021. He also spent time with the Los Angeles Chargers playing four games for them in 2021 with one tackle (1 assist).

Collegiately, Thomas played three seasons at Minnesota (2017-19) with 75 tackles (64 solo, 11 assists), two tackles for loss, one interception, eight pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 32 games for the Gophers.

Then, Thomas transferred to Kansas State in 2020 with 27 tackles (22 solo, 5 assists), and four pass breakups in eight games for the Wildcats.
