Lehigh Valley Phantoms clinch playoff spot with a shutout win in Bridgeport

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms (31-30-9) have clinched the final playoff spot in the Atlantic Division on Friday night at the Total Mortgage Arena against the Bridgeport Islanders (24-38-9).

Elliot Desnoyers put the Phantoms up 1-0 at 6:27 of the first period with assists by Zayde Wisdom (1) and Victor Mete (14). It was Desnoyers’s fifth goal of the season. At 4:43 of the second period, Tanner Laczynski (26) stole the puck before passing to Olle Lycksell (20), who made a great pass to Adam Brooks (13) for the goal which made it 2-0 Phantoms.

At 17:43 of the third period, Bobby Brink put the game away with an empty-net goal for a 3-0 win. Hunter McDonald (3) and Rhett Gardner (13) assisted in Brink’s goal. Lehigh Valley goaltender Cal Peterson made all 23 saves and was named the first star of the game. Also earning stars of the game were Elliot Desnoyers and Adam Brooks.

The Phantoms return home for the final two games of the regular season against the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins on Saturday at 7:05 pm and on Sunday against the Charlotte Checkers at 3:05 pm on both on AHL.TV. Purchase Phantoms tickets today on StubHub and Viagogo.
