San Antonio keeps pace with a win over Michigan

The San Antonio Brahmas (3-1) hosted the Michigan Panthers (2-2) on Saturday night at The Alamodome in front of a crowd of 11,251 fans.

Before this game, St. Louis, San Antonio, and D.C. were in a three-way tie for first place in the XFL Conference. St. Louis defeated Memphis on Saturday and San Antonio needed to win this game to keep pace with St. Louis as the UFL season nears the halfway point. The Brahmas took care of business in a 19-9 win over the Michigan Panthers to move to 3-1 on the season.

San Antonio had 305 yards on offense. Quarterback Quinton Dormady completed 23 of 37 passes (62%) for 269 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and five carries for no yards. Dormady’s touchdown happened in the second quarter to Marquez Stevenson for four making it 16-0 with 22 seconds left of the half.

Running back John Lovett led the rushers with 13 carries for 35 yards, one touchdown, and three catches for nine yards. San Antonio’s rushers finished the night with 22 carries for 41 yards, and one touchdown.

Wide receiver Justin Smith led the receivers with seven catches for 107 yards, while Marquez Stevenson made three catches for 16 yards and one touchdown. The receivers finished the night with 23 catches for 269 yards and one touchdown.

Kicker Ryan Santoso made two field goals with a long of 40 yards. San Antonio’s defense made 56 tackles led by defensive back Jordan Mosley with five tackles (3 solo, 2 assist), one interception, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. The rest of the defense had six tackles for loss, six sacks, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

Michigan had 251 yards on offense. Quarterback E.J. Perry completed 7 of 13 passes (54%) for 77 yards, and four carries for 49 yards before an injury sidelined him for the rest of the game. Backup quarterback Danny Etling completed 11 of 14 passes (79%) for 105 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and two carries for 10 yards.

Etling’s touchdown happened in the fourth quarter to Marcus Simms for 41 yards that cut San Antonio’s lead down to 19-9 with 3:19 left in the game.

Running back Matt Colburn II had seven carries for 27 yards, and three catches for 11 yards, while Wes Hills had four carries for 25 yards and one catch for nine yards. The rushers finished the night with 17 carries for 111 yards.

Wide receiver Marcus Simms led the receivers with four catches for 63 yards and one touchdown. The receivers finished the night with 18 catches for 182 yards and one touchdown.

Kicker Jake Bates made one field goal for 49 yards. Michigan’s defense made 59 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, and five pass breakups.

Next weekend, the San Antonio Brahmas visit the Arlington Renegades on Saturday at 7 pm on FOX, while the Michigan Panthers visit the Memphis Showboats on Sunday at 3 pm on FOX.
