St. Louis continued its winning streak on Saturday over Memphis

The St. Louis Battlehawks (3-1) kicked off Week 4 of the UFL season on Saturday afternoon hosting the Memphis Showboats (1-3) from The Dome at America’s Center in front of a crowd of 31,757 fans that witnessed the Battlehawks win their third straight game by the final score of 32-17. Meanwhile, the Showboats have lost three straight games since their Week 1 win at Houston.

St. Louis had 355 yards on offense. Quarterback A.J. McCarron completed 35 of 45 passes (78%) for 222 yards, three touchdowns, one interception, and four carries for 23 yards. McCarron’s touchdowns came in the first and fourth quarters.

In the first quarter, McCarron threw a two-yard touchdown pass to Wayne Gallman II for a 17-6 lead. In the fourth quarter, McCarron threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jake Sutherland extending St. Louis’s lead to 26-17, and then threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to Jahcour Pearson which made it 32-17 with 4:54 left of the game.

Running back Jacob Saylors led the rushers with 15 carries for 103 yards, three catches for 19 yards, and one touchdown. His rushing touchdown happened in the first quarter rushing for an 11-yard touchdown that put St. Louis up 9-6. The rushers finished the afternoon with 21 carries for 133 yards, and one touchdown.

Wide receiver Jahcour Pearson led the receivers with 10 catches for 70 yards, and one touchdown, while Hakeem Butler made eight catches for 61 yards. The receivers finished the afternoon making 35 catches for 222 yards, and three touchdowns.

Kicker Andre Szmyt made two field goals with a long of 54 yards. St. Louis’s defense made 61 tackles, four tackles for loss, four sacks, one interception, five pass breakups, and one forced fumble.

Memphis had 127 yards on offense. Quarterback Case Cookus completed 8 of 12 passes (67%) for 55 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and one carry for -1 yard before suffering a shoulder injury. Cookus’s touchdown pass came in the first quarter to Vinny Papale for 17 yards that put Memphis ahead 6-3. That was the Showboats only lead of the game.

Backup quarterback Troy Williams completed 4 of 9 passes (44%) for 37 yards, and one carry for three yards. Running back Darius Victor led the rushers with 11 carries for 58 yards, one touchdown, and three catches for 16 yards. Victor’s rushing touchdown happened in the second quarter for six yards that cut the Battlehawks lead down to 17-14. The rushers finished the afternoon with 14 carries for 67 yards, and one touchdown.

Tight end Sage Surratt led the receivers making four catches for 24 yards, while Vinny Papale made two catches for 21 yards and one touchdown. The receivers finished the afternoon with 12 catches for 92 yards and one touchdown.

Kicker Matt Coghlin made one field goal for 28 yards. Memphis’s defense made 73 tackles, four tackles for loss, one interception, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
