Former Ottawa Redblacks defensive back Ranthony Texada announced his retirement on Tuesday according to Pro Football Newsroom’s James Larsen.

Ranthony Texada is five foot ten and weighs 185 pounds. The 28-year-old from Frisco, Texas, signed with the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2018. He made four tackles (4 solo) in four preseason games before the Redskins released him on September 1, 2018.

Next, Texada signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on June 6, 2019, and spent a month on the practice squad. In 2020, he was drafted by the New York Guardians (XFL) in the 10th round (79th pick) in the 2020 XFL Draft. He made 16 tackles (13 solo, 3 assists) and one sack in five games before the league suspended the season due to the pandemic.

Then, Texada signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers but the season was canceled. In 2021, Texada returned to the Ottawa Redblacks playing two seasons with 24 tackles and one interception in 11 games. He was released by the Redblacks on September 7, 2022, and later signed the Montreal Alouettes on September 15, 2022, appearing in one game for Montreal.

After Montreal, Texada was drafted by the San Antonio Brahmas (XFL) 12th round (80th pick) of the 2022 XFL Supplemental Draft. In 2023, Texada made 30 tackles (19 solo, 11 assists), four tackles for loss, three pass breakups, one quarterback hit, two sacks, one interception for 30 yards, and one forced fumble in 10 games, of which two were starts.

Collegiately, Texada played four seasons at TCU (2014-17) with 111 tackles (89 solo, 22 assists), 10 tackles for loss, five sacks, three interceptions for 29 yards, one touchdown, 32 pass breakups, one forced fumble, one blocked kick, and three kick returns for 125 yards in 42 games for the Horned Frogs. He was named First Team All-Big 12, Honorable Mention All-American by SB Nation, and Fourth Team All-American by Phil Steele in 2017.
